Introduction to Grove

Grove is our venture deals marketplace where we connect vetted startups and investors. On Grove, founders (such as yourselves) get to tell your startup stories, increase the visibility of your business and get in front of the right investors for your business. This can allow for a much faster and more seamless fundraising process.

Grove has been designed with the founder in mind. Pariti has been doing company analysis’ on startups in Africa for 2+ years and tracked their startup journey over the years, this includes from joining world-class accelerator programs (such as YC) to fundraising and being acquired. Through our predictive fundraising engine and intelligence team, we are equipped with the best analytical tools to review your startup and provide quantitative and qualitative feedback on your company.

Advantages for founders are:

• Grove is free for our founders. For now, creating a deal room and or being added to our marketplace is free for all startups. It takes about 15 minutes to build our deal room!

• Qualified companies are listed on our marketplace for 3 months. This is to ensure our founders and their startups get maximum visibility in front of our curated investor database.

• Exclusive feature in our investor newsletter. Your startup company gets to be featured in our weekly newsletter for investors, to maximize the company’s visibility.

• An editable deal room. Founders can update various aspects of their startups to ensure that the latest information is visible. Some of the areas that can be updated are traction details, investment entity incorporation, tagline and company name.

• A broad spectrum of investors. We currently have a network of 100+ investors presenting a great mix of institutional investors and Angels, who are active in the African tech ecosystem. Some of the investors in our portfolio include; Launch Africa, Microtraction, Future Africa, Kepple Africa and 500 Global.

  • NB: Investors are thoroughly vetted before being included on our platform to ensure companies are presented in front of the right investors for them.

• Grove prioritizes information privacy. To ensure sensitive founder information is protected, we do not share the company’s pitch materials with investors. Instead, we do a company analysis showcasing the company’s achievements and the team’s strength.

  • Example of company analysis shared with investors.
    • The company is in insurance tech, targeting the younger generally uninsured population. The company is using P2P to rally users into pooling funds to collectively insure against common risk; a strategy that has successfully grown the engagement of users in industries such as Crypto trading.
    • Insurance of devices is a growing need as more and more Millennials and Gen Z seek to protect some of their mobile devices in an affordable and accessible way. Over the last 7 months, the company has seen decent interest in its product, selling 2.5K+ policies, and generating $5K MRR.
    • The company is still early stage, having launched in January 2022. Therefore, there are limited insights into its claims rates and how the company’s growth rates have been in 2022.
    • The company has a competent CEO, who brings in significant industry expertise, with 10+ years experience in insurance and underwriting.
    • The company has seen interest from one of Africa’s leading accelerators and investors, ODX Accelerator and Getequity respectively.
    • It is currently raising $500K pre-seed at a $2M valuation to help reach their goal of 400K active users. 30%+ of the round has already been raised.

  For companies that fall shy of our qualifications at the time of submission, we provide detailed, actionable feedback on areas of improvement that the company could work on. Additionally, we offer 1:1 sessions where we answer questions and offer guidance on the feedback shared. Note that companies are welcome to re-apply at a later stage.

  • Example of feedback shared with founders.
    • The company's unique value proposition doesn't stand out. The company could include a competitor matrix to highlight its advantage thus differentiating itself from competitors more distinctly.
    • Skill gaps in industry experience and marketing. The company could consider onboarding sector experts to build investor confidence in the team's capacity.
    • The data presented seems inaccurate. The company could include cited up-to-date data to support its market analysis, which would demonstrate a deep understanding of the industry, competition, and target users.
    • Limited information on the company's traction. The company could include more traction metrics such as the number of events facilitated, the number of active users, and month-on-month growth (MOM). This is an indicator of the business' growth and momentum.
    • A lack of clarity on the company's economic status. The company can include a breakdown of its unit economics, and revenue sources. This allows investors to gauge the viability and profitability of the product.
